POSTER REQUIREMENTS, GUIDELINES AND PRESENTATION INFORMATION

Abstract DEADLINE:  NOON, Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Poster Space is limited to 300 spaces. Poster abstracts will be considered on a first come first serve basis. Posters submitted late or beyond the 300 poster spaces available will not be accepted.

Poster presentations provide an opportunity for presenter and audience to talk with one another. During the session, the audience moves through the poster displays, stopping to talk with those presenting research that is of personal interest. In constructing your poster, you should attempt to exploit the opportunities provided by this extended visual mode of presentation. Successful posters achieve both coverage and clarity. The guidelines below should help contribute to the success of your poster.

Poster abstracts must be submitted by the student who is presenting, not by the faculty mentor. Abstract Booklets will be arranged by topic area, then alphabetically by the student who is listed as the presenter.

Your poster display number and location can be found in the abstract booklet located at the registration table. There will be a 4’W x 3’H area to display each poster. Stick pins and special tape will be provided.

  • Include the title, author(s), affiliation(s), and a description of the research that highlights the major elements of your work. The poster should provide brief statements consisting of an introduction, method including subjects and procedures, results, and conclusions.
  • Minimize detail and try to use simple jargon-free statements. Your final conclusions should leave observers with a concise statement of your most important findings.
  • Do not overwhelm the viewer with excessive amounts of information. Rather, construct a poster display that enhances conversation.
  • Pictures, tables and figures are amenable to poster display. You may want to use color in these visuals, or use white paper and colored background sheets.
  • Lettering should be neat and large enough to read from a distance (i.e., at least 3/8” high in bold font). Do not simply display a set of typed pages—reserve those for a handout.
  • Consider using a flow chart or some other method of providing the viewer with an organized guide to inspecting your display.
  • Posters may be set up beginning at 7:45 a.m. on September 18 and should be in place by 9:00 a.m. The number assigned to your abstract determines the time you present. All posters should remain in place until 3:00 p.m. and must be taken down by 4:30 p.m.  Remaining posters after that time will be discarded.
  • Presenters with an even-numbered poster are requested to be in attendance at their posters from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Odd-numbered poster presenters may view during this time.
  • Presenters with an odd-numbered poster are requested to be in attendance at their posters from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Even-numbered poster presenters may view during this time.

Abstract submission Does NOT register you for the conference and luncheon. Conference registration is open until NOON, Tuesday, September 11th at www.ndepscor.nodak.edu
